Call for Proposals for the second ACP-EU Energy Facility

A call for project proposals for the second ACP-EU Energy Facility has been opened on the 9th October 2013. The theme of the call for proposals is energy and fragility. "Fragile states” is the term used for countries facing particularly severe development challenges: weak institutional capacity, poor governance, and political instability causing a reduced resilience to shocks such as economic crisis and natural hazards. Often these countries experience on-going violence as the residue of past severe conflict. Fragile states have acute energy needs that often require different approaches than those applied in other countries.
Access to modern and sustainable energy services is vital for satisfying basic human needs and a prerequisite for economic growth. Yet one in every five people on Earth lives without access to electricity and the opportunities it offers.
The Global objective of this Call for Proposals is to contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) on poverty alleviation, as well as of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) objectives on energy, while helping to fight against climate change.
The Specific objective of this Call for Proposals is to increase and improve access to modern, affordable and sustainable energy services for rural and peri-urban poor by focusing on renewable energy solutions as well as on energy efficiency measures.
The Deadline for submission of concept notes and full applications is on the 14th February 2014.
