Ghana stands by food safety

Addressing the ministers and officials the European Union (EU) and the Africa Caribbean Pacific (ACP) countries at the 12th Joint Session of the Ministerial Trade Committee in Brussels, Mr Hauruna Iddrisu, Minister of Trade and Industry of Ghana, assured that the Ghanaian government has been reducing the number of contaminants in foodstuffs and cocoa products in specific. Mr Iddrisu also mentioned striking a good balance between maintaining the safety of these products while minimizing any negative impact. The extra work required to make sure that the raw materials are clean and safe enough to be processed, would definitely place a further burden on ACP producers. In this context, Mr Iddrisu also proposed to set up an agenda to work towards the reduction of the environmental sources of contamination of cocoa beans.
