200 mayors support Fair Trade in the post-2015 development agenda

200 mayors from around the world signed the Fair Trade Beyond 2015 Declaration in preparation for the United Nation’s event on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The declaration is apart of the Fair Trade campaign to create a new sustainable development framework after 2015 that will incorporate Fair Trade values.
Mayors from Poznan, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, Paris, and Madrid joined 120 elected local authorities and 270 Civil Society Organizations in declaring their support for a global framework that promotes sustainability and equality.
In response to the support from the signers, Sergi Corbalán, Executive Director of the Fair Trade Advocacy Office, stated, “Fair Trade is a best practice on how poverty reduction can meet sustainable development. It would be therefore logical that the future sustainable development framework beyond 2015 promoted the uptake of Fair Trade.”
