Children as agents of change: Lessons from BTC Tanzania’s HIV & AIDS awareness project

Improved knowledge of sexual and reproductive health, greater awareness of rights, ability to recognise and avoid risky situations, and willingness and confidence to inform and positively influence their peers and neighbours: these were just some of the results observed among pupils targeted by a BTC-supported project for HIV & AIDS awareness. The project, piloted in 28 primary schools in Tanzania, also contributed to additional benefits including better attendance, reduced number of early pregnancies, and improved academic performance.
These findings and more are described in the publication, launched on 11 October 2012: "Agents of Change: Lessons from a pilot HIV & AIDS awareness project in primary schools in Tanzania". The booklet describes the results of the project, highlights lessons learned and makes recommendations for scaling up activities to many more schools.
