EU to help Congo cope with simultaneous crises

With the aim of raising awareness of the  state of humanitarian affairs in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva will pay a visit to the country this week. Additionally, the EC is expected to channel around €59 million to the DRC in 2012, a 10 per cent increase compared to last year, to back the country facing several and simultaneous humanitarian crises.
The EC will focus on alleviating the effects of displacement, the violation of human rights and the atrocities committed against civilians. Most recipients of the its humanitarian assistance are victims of recent and ongoing conflicts and the host communities where the displaced have found shelter.
