Ghana presses ECOWAS for consensus on EPA

According to Ms. Hannah Tetteh, the Ghanaian Minister of Trade and Industry, the country wants a consensus of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) on the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) with the EU. In an interview with the Financial Business Times, she stressed that in Ghana “[they] are actively engaged in the discussion on having an ECOWAS platform for the full EPA, but as a country we have the interim EPA as a fall-back should we not reach a consensus within the stipulated time-frame.”
The Minister said a wider discussion on this issue is needed as there is much national interest. “It is true that in signing the full EPA we shall gain in some areas and lose in others, but we need to measure the gains against the losses and decide on what is best for the nation”, she added.
