NGOs mobilise for Europe

The National Platform and the NGOs involved will be organising a wide range of activities aimed at mobilising the general public and European decision makers for a Europe based on the principles of solidarity and openness to the world.

The campaign consists of three broad areas of activity, some of which are planned to continue after 1 July 2005 :

Strengthening the links between actors in the field of development cooperation in Luxembourg and in the new member states under the slogan "The small EU states, major actors in development cooperation" ;

Policy coherence, with a particular emphasis on European agricultural policies and their contribution to the fall in the prices of basic products and the standard of living of 1.3 billion peasants the world over ;

The UN Millennium Development Goals and the EU's commitment to the fight against poverty. Particular attention will be paid to the run up to the United Nations Conference in September 2005.

The NGOs will also address other issues with a bearing on the EU's relations with countries of the South as they arise. For more details on the activities and issues, please visit the campaign website here.
