Belgium: €39 million for development in Senegal

Belgium will finance development projects in the three regions of the Sine-Saloum cluster (Kaolack, Fatick and Kaffrine, Centre) worth a total of 26 billion CFA Francs (around €38.7 million), Birima Mangara, Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Finance and Planning has announced. Chairing the opening of the 13th session of the Joint Technical Cooperation Meeting between the two countries, Mr Mangara said the funding would be used for the promotion of sustainable entrepreneurship and the creation of decent jobs, for women’s, neonatal, child and adolescent health, and for training, studies and expert reports. According to the Budget Minister, the promotion of sustainable entrepreneurship and the creation of decent jobs should strengthen the emergence and improve the economic, social and environmental performance of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the Sine-Saloum cluster. In the area of health, Birima Mangara said the objective was to ensure effective access for beneficiaries to quality reproductive health services, with a specific focus on reducing maternal mortality, promoting family planning and preventing gender-based violence.
