France: a label to support Cameroon’s cacao producers

The ‘Destination chocolatiers engagés’ label, aimed at sharing with Cameroonian cocoa producers the expertise of French master chocolate makers to help them to produce high quality cocoa, was launched on 26 June 2018 in Paris by the President of the French Confederation of Chocolate Makers and Confectioners, Frédéric Chambeau, and the President of the Cocoa and Coffee Inter-professional Council (CICC), Appolinaire Ngwé. According to Frédéric Chambeau, “This label is a concrete sign of the collaboration we have begun with Cameroon through the Cocoa and Coffee Inter-professional Council in order to improve the quality of cacao in the country.” “The aim is to produce better cacao, which meets the requirements of master chocolate makers, and to do it on a larger scale, in other words beyond the framework of a small cooperative. To this end, the CICC has committed to setting up post-harvest cacao processing centres," said Omer Gatien Malédy, Executive Secretary of the CICC, who added that after the first three processing centres built for cooperatives in the coastal and central regions, “two major centres are under construction” in the country.
