EU and AU bet on closer cooperation ties

The African Union (AU) is studying mechanisms to strengthen cooperation with the European Union (EU) on infrastructure promotion, in order to reduce poverty, promote sustainable development and inclusive growth. From now on, conversations will be held in this regard between the continental blocs, although it was not specified when. The pan-African entity revealed that the EU will allocate 20 percent of its entire development portfolio to projects to deal with climate change and will support the 2030 Agenda through the incorporation of sectoral actions, especially in transport, new technologies, energy, urban planning, and resources water During these meetings, in particular, the challenges related to resilience, adaptation, and mitigation of the consequences of natural disasters will be addressed, as per Prensa Latina. Security and protection, employment and growth, as well as migration, will be other topics to address, detailed the AU. According to the reports issued, both organizations maintain close collaboration, through various frameworks, such as the Cotonou Agreement and the Strategic Partnership. In addition to these agreements, relations also take place through formal dialogues, such as the European Union-Africa Summits.
