YASE: 1st ‘Young African Scientists in Europe’ Conference

Tens of thousands of young Africans are expatriated in Europe to pursue scientifc training. As the need for researchers and engineers continues to grow in Africa, how many of them will contribute in the future to the scientifc and technological development of their own countries? On July 6, 2018, the YASE conference will highlight the role of these young African scientists in the development of science in Africa. Organized in Toulouse by Afriscitech, the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD- France) and the Federal University Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées, in connection with the 8th edition of EuroScience Open Forum, this event will also give African doctoral and post-doctoral students working in Europe informations and elements of choice about the development of their scientifc careers in Africa. Back in Africa, after a few years in a European country, how can one integrate into the higher education and research system, or into companies? Keep international collaborations? Overcome the lack of experimental means? What actions can be taken from Europe? These and many other questions will be debated at YASE by some 40 researchers, business leaders and politicians working in Africa, who will share their experiences with 250 PhD candidates and post-docs.
