New director of the French Development Agency in Niger

From September 2017, Mr Jean-Christophe Maurin is the new director of the office of the Agence française de développement (AFD – French Development Agency) in Niger. A doctor in petroleum geophysics and a university professor, Mr Maurin worked for the French Foreign Ministry in Congo and Senegal, then in central administration in charge of higher education and vocational training. He joined the AFD in 2009, becoming head of the Vocational Education and Training division, before moving to Kinshasa in 2013 as director of the AFD in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The AFD is a public financial institution, ‘which implements the policy defined by the French government, acts to combat poverty and promote sustainable development’. The AFD has a presence on four continents through a network of 75 offices, and ‘finances and supports projects that improve people’s living conditions, support economic growth and protect the planet’.
