Angola: EU releases 65 million Euros for food security

At least sixty-five million Euros is the amount made available by the European Union (EU) to finance the project for Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security Strengthening in Angola (FRESAN), to start being implemented in September. The financing, which is part of the 11th European Development Fund in Angola (EDF), aims at contributing to reducing hunger, poverty and vulnerability to food and nutritional insecurity in the provinces of Cunene, Namibe and Huíla, strengthening sustainable family agriculture in the most affected regions by climate changes. The implementation of this project, to be developed in these provinces over a five-year period, began on Monday in Luanda with the signing of the financing agreement valued at about 11 billion kwanzas (65 million Euros) Between the Angolan Government and the European Union. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Planning and Territorial Development for Angola, Job Graça, and the European Union ambassador to the country for EU, Tomas Ulicny, and witnessed by the Ministers of Agriculture, Marcos Nhunga, Education, Pinda Simão, Secretaries of State, vice governors, national directors, among others officials. On the occasion, Minister Job Graça said that this funding is based mainly on the prevention of climatic phenomena that have been affecting the southern region of the country more often.
