Indonesia to Support Gambia's Agricultural Sector

Indonesia will build stronger cooperation with Gambia's agricultural sector, according to a statement issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, on Sunday (25/07). The embassy also represents Indonesia in neighboring Gambia. Agriculture Rural Farmers Training Center (ARFTC) director Asumana Njaedi said Indonesia has been very helpful in providing Gambian farmers with training, while also giving them useful knowledge related to the sector, as quoted by state-run news agency Antara. Meanwhile, Indonesia will also help the African nation to rebuild the ARFTC, which was established by the Indonesian government in Jenoi, Gambia, in 1998. The facility is situated on 6.6 hectares of land. Gambia is primarily an agricultural nation with 80 percent of its two million people being dependent on the farming sector. However, Gambia needs assistance from other countries, such as Indonesia, to develop the sector. As the country that benefits the most from agriculture, Indonesia also held a workshop in Jenoi on March 21-28 related to matters such as food processing, cultivation techniques, micro-farming and mechanization. The workshop was followed up by another in Lembang, West Java, on April 1-14.
