New programmes of development cooperation for Fiji will be introduced this year by the European Union. The new programmes are part of the EU’s bilateral cooperation. This will be in the areas of Agriculture, Sugar and access to justice. Andrew Jacobs – EU Ambassador to Pacific said  work will be done with the Fijian Government and stakeholders in the new support programmes “We’re just now beginning the finalization process of plans for new programmes and in sugar and Agriculture we’re hoping with the Fijian Government to work in the framework of the government and strategies in order to maximize productions , maximize competitiveness which is critically important for the sugar industry particularly as we lead into 2017 and towards the end of next year the European market will be a more competitive place for sugar” He adds programmes relating to access to justice will also be introduced. “We share the governments concerns and ambitions that justice should be available to everybody. Everybody should know what the judiciary system has available for them to provide them with recourse in cases where they need it. so we’re going to be working very closely with the Ministry of Justice and  judicial system “ The EU bilateral cooperation with the Pacific covers Regional Economic Integration,Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and the Environment, Inclusive and Accountable Governance and the respect of Human Rights.
