Economic diplomacy: Paris on the front foot in Ouaga

France intends to remain a preferred trading partner for Burkina. And Paris is already on the front foot with the incoming administration. The newly elected President of Burkina Faso, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré is expected to focus on boosting the economy. And Paris intends to remain a preferred trading partner of post-insurrectional Burkina. According to our information, during a face-to-face meeting at the start of December, the French Ambassador Gilles Thibault and President Kaboré, who plan to hold further talks very shortly, discussed economic trade between France and Burkina Faso. French private investment in Burkina Faso currently amounts to EUR 109 million. French companies are particularly interested in the major projects that are in the pipeline. For example, Vinci has joined the race to win the concession contract for the new airport in Donsin. But also, and above all, Bolloré has made no secret of its ambition to win the contract for work on the Kaya-Tambao railway line and its extension to Niger, following the setbacks suffered by its main challenger, Pan African Minerals, owned by the Romanian-Australian billionaire Frank Timis.
