Zambia-EU: Livestock sector progresses

Zambia Livestock and Fisheries Permanent Secretary David Shamulenge says significant progress has been made to ensure the country starts exporting livestock and livestock products to the European Union- EU- market. And the construction of regional veterinary laboratories across the country at a cost of more than 40 Million Kwacha has advanced. Government is currently constructing laboratories in eight provinces to bring livestock and veterinary services closer to the farmers and help in the prevention and control of diseases. Dr Shamulenge says his ministry is now targeting to eliminate all livestock diseases in the country, which he says is a requirement for any country to penetrate the EU market. The Livestock and Fisheries Permanent Secretary says the new ministry will ensure that it heed to President Edgar Lungu’s vision of making the country a fish and livestock exporter in order to earn the country the much needed foreign exchange.
