Europeaid Infopoint: Services to face climate challenges

On Thursday 5th November, the European External Cooperation Infopoint held a lunch time conferecen on ‘Services to face climate change: Making climate information available and pertinent for everyday decisions.’ Mr. Denis Salord, Head of Unit, DG Development Cooperation on Thematic intra-ACP prgorammes introduced the conference, alongside Mr. Viwanou Gnassounou , Assistant Secretary General of the ACP and Head of Sustainable Economic Development and Trade at the ACP Secretariat. Presentatioins were made by Mr. Jolly Wasambo, MESA Project Coordinator at the African Union Commission.

Mr. Nihmei Salesa, Secretariat of the Pacific Regiona Environmental Programme (SPREP) and Mr. Alhassane Diallo, Director General  of the African Centre of Meteorological  Applications for development (ACMAD) also made presentations.  The interentions underscored the point that living with, and adapting to climate variability and change is an everyday reality. The combined effects of climate change and increasing vulnerability and exposure to hazardous conditions and changing land use present challenges to society. In this regard, climate services provides vital climate information. With this in mind, the ACP Secretariat, the African Union Commission and the Regional Economic Communities joined forces with the European Commissio to build climate services capacities in developing countries vulnerable to the impact of climate change and variability.
