Caribbean export recognises benefits of EU ECI

Executive Director of the Caribbean Export Development Agency, Coke-Hamilton observed that the European Union funded Export Competitive Index (ECI), can support decision-makers in CARIFORUM States to better understand the competitiveness of their exports. However, she did add “When an attempt is made to measure the competitiveness of our exports, the analysis is practically impossible given the lack of data that would allow us to do so comprehensively.” Additionally, she noted that in existing frameworks for measuring competiveness some of the key factors which contribute to export competitiveness are not captured and measured, or it refers more the economic competitiveness of an economy as opposed to the export sector.
