ACP Group Demands End of U.S.-Cuba Blockade

At the last session of the Joint parliamentary Assembly (JPA) between the EU and African, Caribbean and Pacific Group (ACP) group of states at the European Parliament, members declared themselves to be in favor of the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba. Kombo Gberi, a parliamentarian of Cameroon and co-chair of the Political Committee of the EU-ACP Group States Parliamentary Assembly, acknowledged that Cuba, despite the high cost of the blockade for its economy and people, has maintained its principles, solidarity and cooperation with their African partners and other developing countries.

The Group of Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats reiterated that their group is also in favor of the elimination of the so-called common position of the EU against Cuba. The meeting was attended by Cuba's ambassador to Belgium, Norma Goicochea. On October 27, the resolution entitled “Necessity to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America on Cuba” will be voted for the twenty fourth time at the United Nations General Assembly.
