Ethiopia showcases quality at FloraHolland

BSI invited their Ethiopian growers to the Netherlands and commented that "It is a good start for a tradition." The meeting between Ethiopian rose growers and buyers from FloraHolland was held at the location of BSI at the flower auction in Aalsmeer. Despite low rose prices, the atmosphere was good and growers remain hopeful. “Currently, the prices per rose stem are around 15 euro cents. Last year the price was around 25 cents. Moreover, they also have to deal with negative exchange rates, which costs them around 15 percent. Nobody knows the reason,” says Rinus Bouwman, father of the inventor and driving force behind this initiative. The meeting is part of a three-day event, in which twelve Ethiopian growers met present in the Netherlands, China, and Kenya.
