EU–CARIFORUM Joint Declaration on future

In the margins of the 2nd European Union-CELAC Summit in Brussels, on 11 June 2015, the EU and Cariforum signed a regional cooperation programme of €346 million. The programme is intended to contribute to Caribbean development efforts in the fields of regional integration, climate change, sustainable energy, environment, as well as crime and security, and allocations to the Caribbean Investment Facility. This forms part of the €1billion allocated to the region for the 2014-2020 performance. In relation to the Cariforum-EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), leaders agreed that the EPA can offer important opportunities for growth and sustainable development, and welcomed the signing of the visa waiver for Caribbean countries: The Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The leaders also recognized the efforts made in the region to integrate the overseas countries and territories, as well as the importance of recognising the unique challenges faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
