Reunion Sugar producers want EPA review

Reunion Island Sugar producers have requested an additional $ 38 million at the end of the quota and the guaranteed price for sugar in 2017, but they are still awaiting authorization from Brussels. INSEE statistics say that Reunion has a social situation unconventional. In this regard, the EESC has prposed that three separate studies be undertaken: (i) The first would focus on the impact study on the end of quotas and guaranteed prices cane industry in 2017, and the economic, social and environmental implications. It is estimated that 23,000 people will be affected from farmers, workers, transporters, drivers to dockworkers in 23 municipalities who depend on sugar cane. (ii) The second study concerns the impact of the implementation of economic partnership agreements on the Réunion Island, especially in relation to agriculture. (iii) The third study would focus on inequalities in Reunion Island, compensation and cost of living.
