African Union seeks Caricom’s best practice

A team from the African Union Commission (AUC) visited the Caribbean Community Secretariat in Georgetown, marking an  “important and historic” working visit for both regions. The three day visit is part of an ongoing comparative study of multilateral and inter-governmental organisations . The AUC’s mission is to analyse the best practice of several organizations – including the European Union (EU), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the East African Community (EAC) -  to extract best practices in the aim to improve their modus operandi. The Irwin La Rocque, Caricom Secretary-General highlighted that the Community valued its relationship with the AU and stressed the importance of integration movements among developing countries working closer together. Ambassador Sangu stated that CARICOM had a “special place” in the AU and that he considered the visit as a way of “resuscitating our ties.”
